Thanksgiving Weekend

November 27, 2012

We spent Thanksgiving weekend (Nov 22-25) enjoying our newly completed condo by working on various outstanding projects, playing 3 rounds of golf and enjoying the Thanksgiving Buffet at the Members Club.  After gourging ourselves on the turkey, sweet potatoes and dessert table, we loosened our belts and played 18 holes that afternoon.  On Friday morning we played #8 and afterwards headed to the Village to visit Old Sport & Gallery to look for some pictures to hang on our walls.  After meeting owner Tom Stewart, he helped us pick out about 10 different golf pictures for our naked walls.  Talk about Black Friday!  He was kind enough to offer some great discounts and a copy of his first book "A Tribute to Golf" which will be displayed for all who visit.

During the weekend we hung pictures, installed the remaining towel racks in the bathroom, had the cable and wireless hooked up (of course the Time Warner folks had an issue on their "power booster" and had to run new cables between the buildings!), paint the front door and new slider trim, finished some floor baseboard and 1/4 round trim, filled a door knob hole and handle in the Master BR door and installed tile on the shower edging and finished caulking trim.  Some grouting and minor floor trim remains for our next trip.  Oh did I mention the heating system was serviced and the compressor switch on the roof needed some tweaking to engage the compressor and found out the thermostat runs on only a battery and has no direct power which is needed for current day (1980's and beyond) thermostats!   In order to install my new Nest thermostat, we need a hot line pulled from the furnace.  That will need another service call!

Furnishings are here!

Two weeks ago Kris took delivery of the living room furniture so the place is finally looking like a Vacation Home!  This weekend Kris, Jacob and I drove down with the new entertainment furniture and bistro table and chairs.  We unpacked all, set up the TV, assembled the table and got stuck on the chairs.  Of course "some assembly required" turned into "who in the hell designed this!", so we agreed to end our misery and head out to play #1.  The day was salvaged with a wonderful sunny day pla...

Reaching the Goal Line - Aug 16-19, Aug 25-26

August 27, 2012
These last two weeks saw some great progress and it feels like we are getting close to the end!

During the long weekend of the 16-19, Stephen came down and we finished the engineered flooring, purchased and installed the baseboard and installed the shower door in the Master.  On that Saturday, Kris and Jacob came down and both painted all the finished moldings, trim with another coat for the walls and the condo is looking more habitable!  We took a break Saturday afternoon for a foursome (fir...

Aug 10-12 - grouting done, begin flooring

August 14, 2012
We are beginning to see the finish line!  This weekend I finished the grouting in the master bath flooring and kitchen backsplash and started installing the Tigerwood engineered flooring.  As I started in the hallway with the bedrooms and bath, I was able to install the thresholds (made from my left over Tigerwood decking) and finished the door molding for the bedrooms and bathroom.  I spent Saturday and Sunday installing up to the halfway mark in the living room and entry hallway.  Once I le...

Jul 28-29 & Aug 2-5 - Tiling, blinds, carpet, beds and sliding doors

August 6, 2012
The past two weekends were spent tiling and grouting the master bath shower walls, flooring and kitchen backsplash along with installing new window blinds.  What I thought would be one weekend of tiling and grouting turned into two weekends and I still have to finish grouting the bathroom floors and kitchen backsplash!  Wow I did not realize how much work this was...cutting, trimming, mastic and grouting.

The prior weekend we arrived to find our new dishwasher was finally hooked up and re...

Master Bath update - July 21-22

July 24, 2012
A quick trip to the condo this weekend with Jacob after picking him up from Lutherock camp, some progress was made to prepare for tiling and flooring.  I completed the luan in prep for the hardwood flooring, inspected the sheetrock and backer board in the master bath and verified dimensions for the tiling that will be started this coming weekend.  Also the carpet folks double checked the installation dimensions as I questioned this and sure enough they overestimated by 20%!

The pic is the Mas...

Laying Luan July 13-15

July 17, 2012
This past weekend alot was accomplished with one key milestone finally met.  During the week, the kitchen installer arived with the trim and crown molding (on order for a month) and completed the trim and installed the hallway utility closet.  When I arrived it looked really good but he still needed to finish lining up drawers and doors so they didn't interfere with each other and clean up the trim with caulk and make nice for the kitchen inspector Kris!  He finished this on Sat afternoon whi...

Hot & Steamy - Master Bath Reno and update

July 7, 2012

We just got back from 3 days in Pinehurst July 3-6 but it wasn't any fun and games!  Between the 105 degree heat, no air conditioning and frustrations on getting deliveries made and contractors organized, this was not fun!

First the air conditioning unit was not cooling the condo so temps approached 88 degrees while we worked out butts off fiinishing getting the master bath ready for plumbing and electrical rough in and painting the walls, Two weeks prior we took 2 days (June 21-22), we demo'd...

Installation Day June 11

June 12, 2012
Today was a big milestone as the cabinets were installed and the granite template was completed.  All went well until about lunch time when the installer said "we have a problem"...words you not like to hear!  He said the crown molding ordered did not reach entirely to the ceiling (which was the intent) and not enough trim was ordered to fill out the right cabinet and utility closet.  No worries as they will trade out the wrong for the right but will take a week or so to order.  Otherwise the...

Drywall up, cabinets and appliances delivered

June 11, 2012

Friday (June 8) I came down to take delivery of appliances and cabinets in hopes the drywall would be all done.  On Thu I received a call from Kaz who is doing the drywall and said the kitchen and guest baths would be done and ready for the cabinet install, which we planned  to take on Friday.  He did say the balance of the rooms would take a few more days to complete as the humidity caused the drywall to dry longer (good excuse!).  Since the cabinets were arranged to be delivered late Friday...
